Ireland still in medal contention
With this result, Ireland could yet salvage third place in the final standings, even if they don't win against Australia tomorrow due to goal difference. If Scotland can continue their form, they should have too much for Chile and take second place while Australia need just a point to confirm their World Cup entry. Brilliant first half and a containing second half run was the basis.
70 minutes - Ireland 3 Chile 0 - FULL TIME
Cliodhna Sargent puts in another trademark, big tackle and sets Cregan through but the final whistle beats the attack. No matter, a much improved performance and an impressive win.
68 minutes
More whistles from the Chilean crowd in their own defensive corner. It's been a tough day in the hot sun, players are standing around, leaning on their sticks looking thoroughly drained.
65 minutes
Not much to write about, Chile probing the 25 but still not creating anything you could call a chance.
60 minutes
"Chi, Chi, Chi... lay, lay, lay... vamos Chile" - hosts are on the attack. Lengthy break as a Chilean forward is down injured. Ireland soaking up pressure and not giving up many chances. Camila Caram carried by the physio to the dugouts and we're back in action.
56 minutes
Cregan steal on halfway goes forward to Emma Clarke who breaks the circle and wrong-foots the goalkeeper. Speers and Frazer are both on hand but a defender gets in between them to block. A bit more aggression might have forced a goal, the Chilean crowd aren't happy as a corner is awarded but Ireland stopped playing before the whistle went. A quick consultation and the decision stands. Sargent shot blocked easily but not cleared and there are four players are on top of the ball before it is eventually pushed to the sideline.
54 minutes
Chile on top in this period but there are plenty of gaps to exploit. Megan Frazer and Alex Speers almost take advantage of one. Then Clarke intercepts and plays in Speers but her dive does not apply enough force to wrtong-foot Schuller.
50 minutes
Long ball finds its way to Cregan, alone in the circle with Schuller, she feints right but a covering defender gets a stick to flip the ball away. The game is becoming very open as CHile commit and extra player forward - the marauding Paula Infante.
46 minutes
Daniela Caram completely mishits a free shot from all of six yards with the goal at her mercy. She complains it should have been a corner but it was a simple chance and good advantage. Javiera Villagra wins a corner soon after but two blocks mean the shot again doesn't make it to Healy. Great, bodies on the line defence.
45 minutes
Jacob sprints down the left channel, her cross is just behind the on-rushing Frazer three yards from goal, making the deflection a tough one and it hits her foot.
41 minutes
Michelle Harvey scoops one clear of the goalmouth as a dangerous right wing break leaves Denise Infante through on goal and she flips the ball over Louisa Healy's outstretched stick only for Harvey to avert a very dangerous situation. Chile win their fourth corner straight after which Paula Infante blasts into Healy and the rebound is fresh-aired.
39th minute
Interestingly, Ireland have kept the same back four throughout the game to date. In previous games, especially the first, players were in and out from inside the first 15 minutes.
37 minutes
Eimear Cregan uses typical camogie skills to turn from the top of the circle to control a shoulder-high ball, reach the endline and set up Roisin Flinn whose diving reverse clips a foot. The resulting corner, though, is easily dealt with.
Second half
The body language as the Irish players return to the field is a world apart from the opening two games. Positive faces and plenty of chat amongst the players before big shout of Ireland and we're ready for the second half.
HALF TIME - Ireland 3 Chile 0
Where was this performance earlier this week. Thoroughly dominant and looking dangerous at every turn. There were a few nervy moments inside the opening ten minutes but the side have found their groove and are creating chances for fun.
35 minutes
Urroz, Chile's one bright spark, races down the left again and draws another corner on the half-time hooter. Absolute bedlam ensues, initial shot is not cleared from Healy's pads - a regular theme this week - and there's havoc in the goalmouth with Sargent having to take one off the line at waist height before the fourth rebound is scrambled wide.
33 minutes - GOAL Ireland 3 Chile 0 Symmons ps (34 minutes)
Ireland briefly three on three with Jacob in possession. The chance looks to have gone but with the second wave of attackers arriving the ball is played back to the UCD woman who is unceremoniously hacked down by Daniela Infante. Nikki Symmons converts, low to her left and its 3-0 and a pretty accurate assessment of the way the game has gone.
31 minutes
I was in the middle of typing the crowd has gone into a stunned silence but a hooter just blares out and a few shouts of Vamos Chile pipe up. Ireland very much on top. Frazer unlucky not to win a corner following Harvey's - enjoying an excellent first half - top ball into the circle.
28 minutes - GOAL Ireland 2 Chile 0 (Cliodhna Sargent)
Corner number two for Ireland who are in reasonable control here. Shirley McCay supplies a deft deflection forward to Alex Speers in the circle who turns well and draws the foul. Cliodhna Sargent straight hit for 2-0
25 minutes
Fernanda Rodriguez takes a two-minute rest after she doesn't take kindly to Bartelma's admonishment following an altercation with Harvey. I'm sitting next to a group of umpires who have been discussing the poor discipline in today's earlier game. Scotland thrashed Malaysia 5-0 for whom four players were binned.
23 minutes
Quick auto-pass from Emma Clarke finds the willing run of Niamh Small who gets to the bye-line by the corner flag and smacks across. The diving Roisin Flinn gets a near-post touch on her reverse which flits just wide of the far post. Good chance, well created.
21 minutes
A bit more structure coming into the game. Ireland having a bit more control and umpire Stella Bartelma is making some really good decisions to try and keep the game flowing.
16 minutes
Manuela Urroz does brilliantly down the left but is blocked out by Nikki Symmons on the baseline. In the second wave of attacks, Urroz lays up to Daniela Infante who pushes the ball into Shirley McCay for pc2. Paula Infante gets two shots in but both are stopped by Irish sticks before reaching Healy to clear the danger.
11 minutes - GOAL Ireland
1-0 Ireland, Megan Frazer throws out a stick to a mishit crash ball and it completely outfoxes Schuller. Eimear Cregan took the auto-pass quickly to Bridget Cleland whose connection wasn't the best but it bounced into Frazer's path to deflect home her first international goal.
9 minutes
Scarcely a moment to breathe just yet. There's plenty of green in the crowd today - mainly thanks to Tur-Bus a local travel company who've distributed green balloons and hats to the crowd with their logo emblazoned on them.
8 minutes
Chile break quickly and Javiera Villagra - their star player to date - gets the shooting opportunity at the top but aerials to the right and wide of Healy's goal.
7 minutes
A really lively opening to the fixture, Chile broke the Irish circle inside 20 seconds and it was a scrambled clearance to save the day. A similar scenario from Chile's first corner with Bridget Cleland, on her hands and knees, finally making the tackle. Lizzie Colvin played in Emma Smyth but she miscued her shot from the right edge of the circle before Michelle Harvey makes a great interception on halfway to prelude a corner win. Harvey pushes it herself but Claudia Schuller saves comfortable. Lively stuff but still 0-0
